Day 2, Saturday

Breakfast included with accommodation. At around 9:00 am, departure for an organized tour through Croatian Zagorje. The first stop is the Presečki Oldtimer Museum in Krapina, with a guided tour. Over 25 years of dedicated collecting and restoring vintage vehicles are summarized and presented to the public in 1100 square meters of exhibition space, where visitors can dive into the history of automotive and motorcycling culture. The museum is a unique blend of enthusiasm and professionally managed business growth – resulting in a specialized venue for the heritage of automobiles and the history of motoring. Time at the museum until 10:30 am. Then, departure to Trakošćan Castle. Trakošćan Manor is a cultural heritage site, a protected historical complex consisting of the castle, buildings surrounding it, gardens, and park forest with a lake. Today, it is one of the few objects in Croatia with preserved original content, closely tied to its architectural framework and the life of its owners. Free time in Trakošćan until 1:00 pm, followed by a trip to Lepoglava for a scheduled lunch at Ivančica Restaurant, located near the infamous prison.

After lunch, at 2:30 pm, departure to Desinić for a guided visit to Veliki Tabor Castle. Veliki Tabor, a noble town, is one of the most significant cultural and historical monuments of secular architecture in continental Croatia. Its monumental and authentic fortification architecture makes it extraordinary. This zero-category monument is one of the most recognizable identities, not just of Croatian Zagorje but of all Croatia. After the tour, at around 5:00 pm, departure towards Kumrovec. A leisurely walk through the Kumrovec Ethno-village. Today, the ethno-village is the largest traditionally arranged area in Croatia, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into the appearance of a Zagorje village from the early 20th century. With around forty restored traditional buildings, you’ll learn how our ancestors lived. Stroll through the old Kumrovec village or enjoy coffee at a nearby café.

Around 6:00 pm, continue the tour towards Klanjec with a stop at the monument to the Croatian national anthem, “Our Beautiful Homeland.” A short break for a few photos, then return to the accommodation at the Stara Škola guesthouse.
The total driving distance is 150 km of beautiful roads through Croatian Zagorje.

Day 3, Sunday
Breakfast included with accommodation. After breakfast, at 10:00 am, drive to Marija Bistrica, where you must buy a small souvenir, enjoy the famous Gverc liqueur, and savor the taste of sweet gingerbread. A leisurely walk through the town, followed by a drive to Gornja Stubica. Visit the monument to Matija Gubec, a 6.5-meter-tall figure of Matija Gubec, behind which rise two symmetrical wings – each 20 meters long and 7.5 meters high, filled with bronze reliefs depicting more than three hundred figures. On one side are scenes of the Stubica Battle, people, horses, the clash of noble armies and rebellious peasants, and on the other, a panorama of life at the time. Continue the tour with a visit to the “Rudolf Perešin” memorial park, featuring the statue of the pilot and a preserved MIG-21. The tour ends with a visit to Gubec’s Linden Tree in Gornja Stubica. The 400-year-old Gubec’s linden tree is the only living witness to the Peasant Revolt of 1573. Today, the tree stands 9 meters tall, with a trunk circumference of 4.7 meters, making it a natural rarity. Since 1957, the linden has been declared a natural monument and placed under state protection as a cultural heritage site. A light snack of excellent Zagorje štrukli awaits us at Gubec’s linden. And that brings us to the end of our weekend tour…The total driving distance is 40 km of beautiful roads through Croatian Zagorje.
